How SQMS Began

Back in 1997 I was sitting at a meeting in my capacity of EMEA Technical Support Manager for a well established American company. The meeting was to agree a very large deal with a British household name. As we came near agreement it was suddenly sprung on us that like most large companies they would only deal with ISO9001 certified companies, we had no such certification! Thus must obtain it ASAP.

Much to my horror at the time, my Managing Director agreed that we would be certified by the end of the year and that I would be picking up the roll of Quality Manager to over see the inevitable certification. Not only was this on top of my already busy workload but I new nothing about ISO.

What Is SQMS and Who Needs It?
